What to expect
What happens during my first appointment?
People are often nervous coming to a first appointment. During our first appointment we will get to know each other, I may ask some questions to understand you better and what you want out of therapy, you can share as much or little as you want. The appointment typically lasts between 45-55 minutes.
Are you available to talk between our appointments? How do I get in touch with you?
To make sure we have time to focus on your concerns, communication outside of appointments is usually focused on about scheduling and billing. As KK Counseling does not provide emergency services, if there is a crisis outside of business hours I would encourage you to use emergency services or crisis resources as needed. Check out the Resources page for more information.
How often will we have appointments?
How often people come differs for everyone, I typically like to see someone initially at least every 1-2 weeks as we are getting to know each other and starting to work together. I do understand that things like cost and scheduling challenges can make this difficult. Some people start to come less as they make progress toward their goals.
How long will I be in therapy? How do I know when Iām done?
This is different for each person. We will figure out what you want to get out of therapy and people typically stop coming to appointments when they have achieved their goals. When people say they are in a good place and feel ready to take a break that means we have done great work!
Do I come to the office or do we meet online?
I offer appointments in my Jacksonville office and virtually.
can you help me get an emotional support animal (ESA) or other service animal.
I do not write letters recommending or documenting necessity of an ESA or services animal.
